Merry Christmas from 1910 - what a cracker… courtesy of the British Film Institute

December 23 2010

Here is a beautiful piece of history from 1910 (the year that Harland and Wolff began Titanic’s construction). The BFI clip is all about the lost art of the making of Christmas Crackers - kindly provided on youtube by the British Film Institute (if viewing this post on iphone - visit www.titanicdock.com to view accompanying video).

As we settle down to our Christmas brussel sprouts or turkey and cranberry, spare a thought for the lost craft of our yesteryears. Yes, we have developed our capabilities incredibly in a century but do we have an ounce of craft left in us?  I hope we rediscover many of our old capabilities and resilience in 2011 but for now and from 2010 may we wish you all a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from all at http://www.titanicdock.com.  Let’s hope next year’s an absolute Cracker!
