The RMS Titanic was an Olympic-class passenger liner owned by British shipping company White Star Line and built at the Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast, Ireland. At the time of her construction, she was the largest passenger steamship in the world.

Shortly before midnight on 14 April 1912, four days into the ship's maiden voyage, Titanic hit an iceberg and sank two hours and forty-eight minutes later, early on 15 April 1912. The sinking resulted in the deaths of 1,517 of the 2,223 people on board, making it one of the deadliest peacetime maritime disasters in history.

Titanic Dock

This community idea was conceived and developed in the shadow of the Gargantuan Thompson Dock, situated here on Queens Island in Belfast. Through our community of contributors, we hope to bring you new and interesting stories, information, news, events and exhibit information from the wider World of Titanic. We will be working with our friends from Belfast whom have cherished the memory of Titanic and Belfast’s maritime achievements with a care, love and guardianship that ever endures. We will also link to other Titanic towns and Cities in the wider world and seek to involve them in our quest to engage, enhance and appreciate the message, memories and metaphors of this great ship.

We welcome contributions from people whom for whatever reason feel an affiliation and kinship with her memory and story and we very much look forward to bringing you ‘The World of Titanic from the heart of Belfast’.
