The quickening - a noticeable upsurge in activity around Titanic from her home

June 23 2010

In recent weeks, if you have been in the area of Queens Island, Belfast, home to Harland & Wolff and the new home of Titanic SIgnature Project, you will see that the rather impressive looking Titanic Visitor Centre beginning to take real shape. Rising like a steel leviathan from a time gone before, it is the most significant physical development happening in Belfast today. Having been the largest ever concrete pour here, it will hopefully build on those solid foundations to continue to create tangible, credible and inspiring experiences. From these foundations we can engage as Belfast, justifiably celebrates and commemorates the incredible ship-building and industrial heritage of her past - giving us a lens through which to challenge our own preconceived ideas of our heritage, self and industrial landscape.

There are many new and exciting project beginning to take shape and we will endeavour to keep up with developments and keep you abreast of the best of those being birthed, particularly here in Belfast and on the Islands.  A most dynamic team has been lined up to produce and present a brand new Titanic play and I had the pleasure of speaking with Graeme Farrow of Belfast Festival at Queens to get the juicy details. It will be an ABSOLUTE marvel in my mind and I look forward to receiving the green light to relate the depth, detail and unique presentation of what is to come for the Belfast Festival 2012 - what exciting times!

There will be events to launch these various offerings and these are currently being planned, so if you’re in the vicinity of Grand Central Station, New York City towards the end of September 2010, you will be in for an incredible treat indeed, where many of these upcoming events and experiences will be promoted to the public at large in what was to be Titanic’s final destination. So, we look forward to an accelerated interest in our Titanic City and towns as we come to engage in these developments.  Let’s hope that we can all focus, lend a hand and share the challenges of bringig the World of Titanic back home, what better or more fitting a tribute.
